Representation & advocacy
One credible voice for the South African equine industry: with government, with regulators, and with the international bodies whose decisions shape the trade.
South Africa
The international voice connecting and promoting the South African equine industry.
Launching November 2026
Why now
For years, South African horses could not travel directly to Europe. That changed. What has not yet been built is the body that helps the industry make use of it: the standards, the introductions, and the single voice that speaks for South African breeders and sellers abroad.
March 2024
The EU and UK ban on direct horse exports from South Africa was lifted, following an audit of the country’s quarantine and disease-control protocols.
August 2024
The first shipment under the reopened route, 32 horses, arrived in Belgium, proving the corridor works in practice and not only on paper.
The opportunity
South African thoroughbreds, sport horses and breeding stock now have a direct route into some of the world’s largest equestrian markets.
What Equus will do
Equus South Africa is being established to represent the country's equine industry at home and abroad, modelled on the trade councils that already do this work in Britain and the United States.
One credible voice for the South African equine industry: with government, with regulators, and with the international bodies whose decisions shape the trade.
Practical support through the export corridor: protocols, quarantine, documentation, and the people who actually handle each step.
Recognised standards that let an international buyer have confidence in a South African horse, a South African seller and a South African shipment.
A vetted register of South African breeders, studs, transporters, veterinarians and service providers, searchable by the buyers looking for them.
Industry reporting, market data, and the rooms where introductions are actually made, here and in the markets we are selling into.
